About a decade ago, InMotion launched the Hovershoes X1—two small, self-balancing skates, one for each foot. It comes as no surprise: when targeting the trails, you often see the same design cues—namely a beefy profile, generous ground clearance, and proper suspension.

Why it makes sense for InMotion

The X1 didn't appear out of nowhere. InMotion already has solid experience with suspension-equipped electric unicycles. The V11 was one of the first wheels on the market to feature suspension, and the V14 took power to the next level. The current lineup also includes the off-road-oriented V11Y, the V12S, the V13, and the P6. The X1 appears to round out this family with a dedicated off-road model—a segment where competition is fierce and riders are unforgiving.

What we can reasonably expect

Without making up specs, we can look at what a rider expects from a serious off-road electric unicycle in 2026:

• suspension with genuine travel, adjustable if possible;
• a wide, knobby tire for traction on dirt and gravel;

There is something amusing about this name recycling. The X1 Hovershoes promised to revolutionize mobility by strapping onto each foot. The new X1 promises, above all, to take you where the Hovershoes would never have survived: through mud, over roots, and up rocky slopes. Same model name, radically different ambition. We just hope that, this time, the "Sold Out" status comes because everyone wants one, and not because no one could ever manage to stay upright on them.
